Immutable Prescriptions Held on the Blockchain

Bitcoin.com recently reported on two clinicians John Holden, a General Practitioner, and Greg Irving of the University of Cambridge who devised a concept to make clinical trial documents immutable with the Bitcoin blockchain.
Engelen’s team at REshape Center for Innovation is focusing on prescriptions at the moment, with this initial project a long way from completion. Engelen explains:
“PreScrypt is of course in no way a comprehensive product. We have built this product in only a few days to demonstrate Blockchain technology’s ability; to reveal that it is technically feasible to use Blockchain for health care scenarios. In our opinion this use case is just the first step towards a digital health environment comprising a wealth of applications. Think of approaches to streamline the financial activities in health from consumer to insurer to supplier, Internet of Things applications that can communicate within the Blockchain, a complete PHR instead of one just focusing on drugs etc.. We envision that different providers can build their own applications each having the ability to communicate with each other and the healthcare consumer’s data, onto exactly the same infrastructure. Blockchain technology mixed together with healthcare seems to be a match made in heaven. Considering the transgressions and manipulation from the healthcare industry, such as the recently-uncovered fraud with the Theranos firm, projects like Lucien Engelen’s Prescrypt may be the most secure method of data collection.
